State Highway Construction in Tulsa
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is working on several highways in Tulsa, including the Inner Dispersal Loop around downtown, and Interstate 44 between Yale and Riverside Drive.
Starting the week of October 12, all north- and southbound lanes of Peoria Avenue will be closed at the I-44 junction through the end of the year. Drivers should use Riverside Drive or Lewis Avenue as detour routes around this work zone.
Construction of a 1.25-mile long underground drainage structure on the north side of I-44 between Riverside Drive and Yorktown Avenue requires the temporary closing of Peoria Avenue. The structure is more than 20 feet underground, more than 40 feet wide, and is a key piece of the I-44 Riverside Drive to Yale Avenue widening project. This closure of Peoria Avenue is needed so the structure can be built underneath the roadway, and connected to other parts of the system.
The second phase of the downtown Inner Dispersal Loop construction project is still underway. All lanes of westbound I-244 on the north and west legs of Tulsa’s Inner Dispersal Loop will be closed to traffic. This includes portions of westbound I-244/US-412, and eastbound US-64/SH-51.
All lanes of eastbound I-244 on the north and west legs will remain open, and all lanes on the south and east legs (US-75, I-444 and portions of east and westbound US-64/SH-51) will be open in both directions during this phase of the project. Drivers can use the south and east legs of the IDL as detour routes, but because of anticipated traffic delays are encouraged to allow extra travel time or to find alternate routes. See a map of the IDL construction area.
